To Say Goodbye
[The usual pelting of snow from above at this moment seemed to have calmed down for the time being. And all this time while the others on the island found ways to spend their time, the pigtailed meister finds herself walking along the beach and looking out into the ocean. Those in the past...they beat the Stewards and they haven't shown up here but also, where does that leave her? Was the past changed enough? Were people saved?
But that still made her think: where on earth was Soul?
He's the closest thing to family she has left, been with her through her ups and downs, saved her on many occasions and she did to him, and the image of being apart from him was not only disheartening but terrifying for her to think about. What else did she have to do to know where he is? Did he somehow go to where the Stewards were (a thing she really hoped wasn't a thing) or was he just...gone?]
He can't be gone.
[It's said to herself.]
I refuse to believe it. I won't give up on finding him...
[Silence is all that answers back for a moment. Then the waves started to move together. Something in the distance looks as if it is bobbling in and out of the water and Maka sees it, making her stop and peer out. Her eyes squint and she gives out a gasp and immediately rushes into the water, forgetting how freezing the water is to her. It's just like dealing with the desert except the sensation of feeling like many needles pricking you but what's a little cold?
The item bobs up and down more and she can see a large blade. It's then that Maka picks up her speed and reaches to grab the item by the blunt end and takes the handle, pushing herself and the newly found weapon to shore. Maka gasps deeply as she sucks in air and a bit too greedily because she ends up coughing a bit but she looks down at what she is holding and confirms. She's freezing and wet but for the first time in a long time, she feels relief.
It's also this feeling that gets her to run away from the ocean and back to where the Strangers are with a big grin of what feels like triumph, holding the weapon up high.]
H-He's here! I found him!
[However, unknown to her, the outline of Maka's body seems to fade gently into the air around her...]

[Is he envious that they get to go back? Maybe a little, but he tries not to let that show.]
I suppose we'll see, eventually.

Do you have hope?
no subject
Of course. Even if we don't return the same way you do, I'm sure our friends are already trying to find a way to bring us back. [Besides, Akko said believing was their strongest magic, didn't she?]

[This must be the answer she was looking for because Maka smiles and with one fading hand over her heart, nods.]
Don't ever lose that hope. It can help even in the most dark of times, when things are at their lowest...there's always hope that it will change. If our actions can change even time, then that counts for something.

I promise not to, then. And we won't forget you, either. [He did hear Felicity worrying about that, after all.]
