To Say Goodbye
[The usual pelting of snow from above at this moment seemed to have calmed down for the time being. And all this time while the others on the island found ways to spend their time, the pigtailed meister finds herself walking along the beach and looking out into the ocean. Those in the past...they beat the Stewards and they haven't shown up here but also, where does that leave her? Was the past changed enough? Were people saved?
But that still made her think: where on earth was Soul?
He's the closest thing to family she has left, been with her through her ups and downs, saved her on many occasions and she did to him, and the image of being apart from him was not only disheartening but terrifying for her to think about. What else did she have to do to know where he is? Did he somehow go to where the Stewards were (a thing she really hoped wasn't a thing) or was he just...gone?]
He can't be gone.
[It's said to herself.]
I refuse to believe it. I won't give up on finding him...
[Silence is all that answers back for a moment. Then the waves started to move together. Something in the distance looks as if it is bobbling in and out of the water and Maka sees it, making her stop and peer out. Her eyes squint and she gives out a gasp and immediately rushes into the water, forgetting how freezing the water is to her. It's just like dealing with the desert except the sensation of feeling like many needles pricking you but what's a little cold?
The item bobs up and down more and she can see a large blade. It's then that Maka picks up her speed and reaches to grab the item by the blunt end and takes the handle, pushing herself and the newly found weapon to shore. Maka gasps deeply as she sucks in air and a bit too greedily because she ends up coughing a bit but she looks down at what she is holding and confirms. She's freezing and wet but for the first time in a long time, she feels relief.
It's also this feeling that gets her to run away from the ocean and back to where the Strangers are with a big grin of what feels like triumph, holding the weapon up high.]
H-He's here! I found him!
[However, unknown to her, the outline of Maka's body seems to fade gently into the air around her...]

H-He's here! I found him!
[However, unknown to her, the outline of Maka's body seems to fade gently into the air around her...]

...something's happening to you. [He's not sure yet if they should be nervous about it or not.]
no subject
[Looking at her hands, she can see that he is right and yelps.]
Whoa, what's going on?!
no subject
no subject
I-I don't think that's the case!
[Actually Felicity hit the nail on the head.]
no subject
no subject
To maybe something better waiting for us.
[...]
But what about you and your friends here?
no subject
[Is he envious that they get to go back? Maybe a little, but he tries not to let that show.]
I suppose we'll see, eventually.
no subject
Do you have hope?
no subject
Of course. Even if we don't return the same way you do, I'm sure our friends are already trying to find a way to bring us back. [Besides, Akko said believing was their strongest magic, didn't she?]
no subject
[This must be the answer she was looking for because Maka smiles and with one fading hand over her heart, nods.]
Don't ever lose that hope. It can help even in the most dark of times, when things are at their lowest...there's always hope that it will change. If our actions can change even time, then that counts for something.
no subject
I promise not to, then. And we won't forget you, either. [He did hear Felicity worrying about that, after all.]
no subject
Oh, that's wonderful...news...
[That...fading...does not seem to be good...]
Uh, dear? Should we be concerned that you're...fading?
no subject
What?!
[Oh crap she is.]
Aah!
no subject
Um-Could this have something to do with the-the fight? The stewards getting defeated and all that?!
[…]
Did we break the timeline?!?
no subject
[It's when Felicity reminds her about what happened in the trial that Maka realizes what is happening. But you can't blame her for freaking out a little.]
Now that they're dead and Arachne hasn't come out...maybe it means that the timeline has changed.
no subject
So, you wouldn't have gone back in time and...nothing would happen to you.
Does this mean we'll forget you? Or...you'll forget us? Or both?
[Look, the only time travel knowledge that she really has is from her world's Back To The Future (Probably called Away From The Past) so her knowledge on this stuff is pretty hazy.]
no subject
I don't know unfortunately.
If anything...I don't want to forget anyone here. And I hope you do not forget either.
no subject
Well, we'll try our hardest to remember you. I promise to do that much.
[Usually she wouldn't be this...comforting, but this girl has clearly gone through a lot, and she did help them, so it would probably be best to just be nice to her in the final moments Felicity has with her.
...This place is changing her, but...that might be a good thing.]
no subject
I guess this is goodbye then? [At least he's trying not to assume the worst with her fading out and all.]
no subject
I guess so. I'm sorry we didn't talk much while here.
no subject
[He's smiling, but definitely avoiding saying their way home for good reason.]
no subject
I hope it's soon for you all.
no subject
[ Akko runs over to look at the scythe with awe on her face, only to stop when she notices that Maka's fading now. ]
W-What's happening? Are you going to be leaving us now, Maka?
no subject
It looks like Soul and I both are.
[Looking to the scythe in her hands also fading with her. But still she smiles.]
Thank you for everything, Akko. If it wasn't for you, I would still be taken over by Madness.
no subject
I'm glad you two were able to get reunited again. Wish I could have actually met him, though.
[ It's really hard for her not to tear up slightly as her attention shifts back, a soft laugh escaping her briefly. ]
Y-You're welcome! It really was nothing! I didn't want to just leave you like that.
[ Though something occurs to her and suddenly she seems a bit more sheepish than before. ]
Though... uh... Maka? Can I apologize for something before you go?
no subject
Apologize? For what exactly?
no subject
When you were still taken over by the Madness, and first showed up on the plane? You were kind of paying attention to Mrs. Parham and ignoring me s-so... I threw a frozen dead snake at you.
[ Now that she isn't all inflicted with madness at all either, even she can admit maybe that hadn't been the smartest idea. ]
You came over and kicked me and told me to do more to you, and since I had a bit of minor madness affecting me, I kinda... ended up tackling you to the ground and hit you. [ Yeaaah that was a thing. She can be pretty reckless and impulsive but that was a bit much for even her. ] I'm sorry I ended up doing that, even if you don't remember it now.
no subject
Why are you apologizing for that? You were trying to protect Mrs. Parham after all. There's no need to be sorry for trying to do the right thing.
no subject
no subject
I know. It means that things in my time have changed thanks to your friends on the other side.
[She's not that afraid anymore but she does hold Soul's scythe close.]
I'm sure they'll find a way to get you out of here too.
no subject
[Ugh. Fucking Eddie.]
... You have someone waiting for you. Go take your second chance.
