FINAL TRIAL

[When the doors open, the killed also find themselves allowed into the Room of Reckoning as well. And - similar to the living - they, too, have a table, with their own names and places and sitting pillows. They, too, receive the note on their phones with a ping.

The dead, however, have something else that the living do not have.

They can see that there is someone sitting on the gold pillow by the stairs.]

I'm kind of happy for Britt on not getting himself killed and all? But I feel bad for him being the last holdout in the "conviction" "family".

Me too. It's not easy being the lone voice of reason and trying to convince them on the basis of sound logic is sometimes like talking to a brick wall.

[And looking at the vote now, looks like Britt said fuck it too.]

Well, looks like they've made their choice.

I understand where you're coming from. I've been that lone voice of reason many times. But... I am going to believe in them. If there is anything I've learned from my friends at home, it's that sometimes a lucky fool with enough conviction can change the world.

And sometimes they can rush off to their own deaths. I can tell a good amount of what they are saying is also them even trying to convince themselves that they are making the right choices because they still don't have the full picture.

No one ever has the full picture, Loewe-san. Not them, not us, not Yotsuyu-san. Not even her superiors, judging by how they are scrambling about doing damage control. If you don't act without it, you will never act.

Sometimes you have to take what you have, make your choice, and let the chips fall where they may.

They didn't even bother trying to find out what happens if they do prove their mettle.

She wouldn't have told them. You heard her little speech. Choosing this without knowing where it leads is part of the point.

They might have gotten out of her what happens if they fail. She seems fond of insults so that seems right up her alley.

Perhaps. But do you really think knowledge of the consequences of failure would have stopped them anyway?

After all, you fought Nyaf-ya knowing the consequences of failure, did you not? [There is a little bit of a bite to that question despite Kurama's best efforts.]

I knew I was going to die. My intention was to clear as much of a path as possible for them.

I'm aware. It's an interesting mix of reward and punishment, is it not, to be here to see the fruits of your sacrifice?

You say that like it wasn't normal for me in life.
