at once short of life, and long of sorrow.
[You are dead.
Well, obviously. You remember how you died. It was...not fun, to say the least. But hey, at least you're off that ship, right?
Except...you don't know exactly where you are now. It seems like a house, but if it is, it's...a work in progress. Most of the rooms are empty, and your steps echo up through the marble columns and down faint mosaics on the tiled floor. The few windows you find have a green light gleaming through them; you can't really see anything beyond the eerie light.
It feels like you're in a temple of some kind. The columns and mosaics seem to indicate it is something like that-it's certainly reminiscent of something out of an ancient culture, perhaps even one you're familiar with. For some reason, though, it's clear someone-or something-lives here. One of the rooms to the south is stuffed with pizza boxes. Another, larger room has a makeshift futon in one of the corners. There are imprints of multiple footsteps all through the dusty floors as you look around, many of them leading to a small alcove to the west. And-
and there's a giant van. Just. hanging out there. Completely out of place with the seemingly ancient decor. And inside, there is the sound of light snoring.
Ok then. You're apparently not alone in death, after all.]

[Like...did you unlock upgrades during your murder, or]
no subject
I have, yes. I have upgraded it to the point where I can create music notes as individual projectiles empowered by whatever emotion I am channeling. These can be used to cause the person who receives them to either feel that emotion, take some damage from them, or both. [lmao that's what got him into trouble in the first place oops]

[.....
this is a bit awkward...]
Still, I am glad you've decided to help with this. I know I am...hardly someone you wish to interact with often, given what I've done. Which is why I am truly grateful you are participating regardless.

I wish to leave this place, and it is beneficial to us all that we upgrade our powers. Do not waste my time with any of your own feelings aside from those that might enhance your powers.

...I suppose you're right, but I must confess, I'm surprised. I didn't think you'd care much about Kaito.
[Given. That has to be what he's mad about, right?]
Unless it was that I was so brazen at the end of my trial?
no subject
I don't care about him, aside from what use he can be to escape this place, nor the end of your trial. [very much said with the tone of someone talking to a simpleton] Akane-san took care of the latter anyway.
no subject
Then what did I do to so deserve your contempt, if I may ask?
no subject
You tried to frame Makima-san.

[wait]
[wait, that's it????]
3/3 in the right place this time

[oh boy that was a yell--and Brain is on his feet, suddenly, slamming both hands down on the table, leaning across it at Moriarty, face twisted into a snarl now]
You tried to frame one of my humans for murder!
no subject
He starts...chuckling?]
My, your human, is it? I'd no idea Makima was so beloved to you - or is it just base possessiveness? Or even something more?
[He chuckles a bit, more, even looking smug now that he knows the reason, looking at Brain with a smile.]
Regardless, that is a valid reason to be angry, though you could have told me it from the start instead of being so close mouthed. It seems even those not originally human can't help but defend a lady's honor! Wahahaha!
1/3
She is not beloved because I do not have the ability to feel such positive emotions. [he seems very annoyed to be talking about this, frustrated] So in that, you are only partially correct. It is possessiveness, selfishness, greed--take your pick. All of them are accurate. [he sneers] Though hardly base.

Ahhaha! My, I believe the Bard said it best here - "Thou doth protest too much!"
Forgive me my laughing, but it's quite hilarious! Even, dare I say it, adorable. Brain, you are a logical being to the utmost, as I expected - but even you are overlooking a single point of logic in your statements.
That possessiveness, selfishness? You said that they were not base. But, indeed, they are. I mean it not in an insulting sense, but in a primal one. And the fact that you even took offense to it means that this is closer to a sore spot than even you would like to examine.
[His eyes...he's staring at Brain like one would stare at an interesting animal, or bug. Piercing, yet attempting to piece him together.]
You so fervently call her yours, yet proclaim you have no capacity to feel love. Does that also extend to comfort? To the feeling of safety? After all, you claim you cannot feel positive emotions, yet even the feeling of possession and selfishness, in of itself, is born of the kernel of positive emotion towards something at its core, and realizing you want that so desperately for yourself.
Is it not logical, then to say that because you felt that sort of positive emotion - even as small as it might be - that you deigned to consider her yours?
1/3
No. It is not logical at all.
[stated, bluntly]
However, if we are to reference William Shakespeare, then it has suddenly become clear that the common curse of mankind, folly and ignorance, be thine in great revenue.
A shame for someone who is supposedly the Napoléon of Crime.
2/3
It is hardly a claim that I cannot feel positive emotion; it is a fact. I am an artificial life form. I have the ability to grow by copying the negative emotions, appearance, and mannerisms of a human. I was then able to evolve beyond that human syncing with a different human who had a particularly strong negative emotion that coincided with my specialty emotion, envy. I used them to gain power, to evolve, to become greater--and then I discarded them.

My possessiveness, my selfishness, are not born of any kernel of positive emotion. It is negative to its core; it is in my very code. [he leans forward a bit] Unless, of course, you are trying to tell me that you know my code better than I do? [there's more than a fair bit of sarcasm there--he scoffs, sitting back again]
Or, worse yet, that you're trying to compare how I use emotion to that of a human? [dryly]
