at once short of life, and long of sorrow.

[You are dead.

Well, obviously. You remember how you died. It was...not fun, to say the least. But hey, at least you're off that ship, right?

Except...you don't know exactly where you are now. It seems like a house, but if it is, it's...a work in progress. Most of the rooms are empty, and your steps echo up through the marble columns and down faint mosaics on the tiled floor. The few windows you find have a green light gleaming through them; you can't really see anything beyond the eerie light.

It feels like you're in a temple of some kind. The columns and mosaics seem to indicate it is something like that-it's certainly reminiscent of something out of an ancient culture, perhaps even one you're familiar with. For some reason, though, it's clear someone-or something-lives here. One of the rooms to the south is stuffed with pizza boxes. Another, larger room has a makeshift futon in one of the corners. There are imprints of multiple footsteps all through the dusty floors as you look around, many of them leading to a small alcove to the west. And-

and there's a giant van. Just. hanging out there. Completely out of place with the seemingly ancient decor. And inside, there is the sound of light snoring.

Ok then. You're apparently not alone in death, after all.]

Power investigation

['I'm fairly sure yours is named Yamato, and is a very important weapon with the ability to cut space.'

Translated from the horrible spelling and handwriting in Alastor's letter, Moriarty had technically already known this. Vergil had told him, but had been sparing on the details until they'd went to clean up the room Dante had messed up with all those pizza boxes.

Still, he also knew it was Dante and Vergil's father - Sparda, wasn't it? - who made the blade, and perhaps some fragment of the man still existed within it. A man Alastor said had been powerful and honorable among Demons, if he wasn't mistaken.

And the ability to cut space...was it truly just space? Vergil had been evasive, but...

Perhaps, he could try. After all, he was a man from darker origins - just like the demon who had created the weapon - and while he still wouldn't call himself Good...

Perhaps, just perhaps, he too could seek some sort of...redemption. Ritsuka had always claimed he was a good person deep down, after all.

So, sitting in a contemplative posture on the floor - in a room away from all the rest, just in case - he focused, calling out in a way that, ironically, felt like he was attempting to summon the weapon itself.

'Yamato. If you would hear me, then please listen.'

Resonate with an emotion. No doubt there would be killing intent - it was a weapon, after all. Yet, would a weapon with such a history only respond to that? Probably not.

So, instead, he put forth his desires. The desire to see everyone on the living side, even if they should hate or fear him. The desire to free all who were trapped here, along with Vergil and Dante. The desire to see the one who had started this game cornered, and their plans ripped to shreds - the demon tree feeding on countless deaths either destroyed or banished. And he tries to impress his iron will on seeing this, that he will not falter nor regret his path, regardless of the difficulty. That even if his hands are steeped in darkness and death and blood, he will attempt to carve the path so that others may find their way into the light.

He doesn't expect it will be easy. In truth, he expects to get nothing at all in response to his plea, because it's not as if he were a Saber or even someone who could boast having done such things when they were alive.

But maybe, just...maybe...he'll find he was wrong.]

[Ah? Well then. He'll focus on that, letting the tug lead him to where it will.

If it wants iron will, then he has it in spades. He is the man who walked down the path of Evil, even to his death - when he warned his nemesis and got a no in response, he continued to walk it. Though it is not his path - though the odds are not in favor of him, or anyone else, he will slice through the realms of the dead and force his way into the living regardless.

There is also the cold, calculating fury of when he thinks of why they are all here. Of an Evil even he cannot allow, bringing children and Good people into the mix to just be sacrificed. Though he is hot when annoyed, his true anger is sharp and cold. For them he will do that impossibility, use that will.

He flexes a hand, tracing a portal open with a gloved finger, allowing the feeling of using the power to flow through him.]

[Something related...

Ah. He was the man who had written about asteroids, after all - and this power was connected to spacetime. Therefore, other phenomena connected to space could be expected. A Portal was essentially a wormhole, so therefore...

...No, could that be it, with this weight?

Instantly - keeping the other emotions in mind - he brings that weight under his control, eyes piercing down on what he's just opened. He knows precision, planning, control - all of these were bywords he lived by, and a difference in his own power will not make him falter or lose control of what is his.

James Moriarty once dared to write of an Asteroid destroying the planet. If he is correct, the power currently trying to awaken is something orders of magnitude more destructive, yet he will still dare to bring such an uncontrollable force under his control with the power afforded to him by Yamato.

He will accept nothing less.]

[At seeing that - at the culmination of his efforts - his face breaks into a sharp, fierce grin.

'The roots outgrew attempts to cut them down', hm? Well. Even assuming this does not hold the same total destructive power of a true black hole, this alone should be able to keep the roots from regenerating too quickly - enough to allow other powers to overwhelm them.

Still, he needs to know more. With exacting movements, he tests its movement capability - how quickly it can go, how far he can have it go from him without beginning to lose control - as well as testing if it can get any larger or smaller, and if he can make more than one at a time.]
