Peace and Serenity

[Dying hurts doesn't it? Feeling such horrible pain as you realize that you're breathing your last moments. It makes someone wonder about what would be waiting for them in the beyond. Some would say there is an afterlife and it would depend on how you acted that decides where you will stay for the rest of eternity. But is it fluffy clouds and wings or pitchforks and brimstone? Will you remember anything that was once missing?

Not in your case. There's no clouds or fire nor any of your missing memories restored. Ain't that a bitch.

When you come to, you will be lying on a futon and tucked in like you had fallen asleep there all long. You will also notice that your clothes have been replaced with simple cotton shirts and trousers (for both men and women, hey we feel the ladies can wear pants too!) for better movement. But in Vita's case, probably a blessing considering. But something will stick out about yourselves: any wounds you had on you are now gone and healed. The room itself is simple with a couple floor lamps, a floor length mirror, a window, and a dresser but there seems to be nothing out of the ordinary-wait, a window?

Yes, there is one and when you look out of it, it's sunny. Not only that but there are signs of trees and a river flowing around where you are at. So there are two big things that you will now realize: This is most definitely not near the Base

And...you're not alone.]

(OOC: Welcome to Deadland everyone! This is the overall mingle log for Round 3 and due to the nature of it, this will be a bit more relaxing than the game itself. And since the setting is different from the Base, here are the places where your characters will be able to go to:

EXTERIOR:

-The Temple: Your place of residence for the duration. Unlike the Base which is constantly in a strange futuristic setting, this has the feel of a much simpler time.

-Outhouse: Where you can go to the bathroom. There's only one but thankfully it's actually got plumbing. Just a toliet and sink to clean up once you're done with your business.

-Baths: Or rather one bath. Not many folks live here after all. However, the tub is large enough to fit several people and and there is a box where soap and shampoo is stored.

-River: This river seems to be where a lot of folks like to wash up on. It's really weird according to the one who is living here.

-Pink Pond: ...no seriously, there is some weird pond in the back of the temple with a pink colored something. Are you brave enough to take a dip or a taste?

-Vegetable Garden: A large plot of land behind the temple is reserved for growing various vegetables. You have the normal kinds such as eggplants and carrots and celery but then there's smaller trees that grow warm bread and al dente noodles. We are not joking. And they are delicious.

INTERIOR

-Strangers' Room: This is a large room where the Strangers will be sleeping in throughout their stay. There is a dresser large enough for storing things if they wish to do so but it's mainly for extra clothing. The beds here are not bunks but rather the futons they will wake up on. It's easily foldable and there's no set spaces where you are able to sleep. And yes, both men and women will be sharing this room so I hope you kids have some manners and try not to peep on the other like a bad harem anime trope.

-Kitchen: 'Rustic'...is one way to describe it. But hey, at least there's an ice box to keep things frozen, counters to chop things up, tools to do cooking in, a sink with plumbing, and a fire burning stove. Just clean up after your mess, no one wants to disappoint the person living here.

-Hallway Closet: A walk in closet where extra futons, blankets, and towels are stored. Nothing fancy.

-Locked Room: ???

-Pink Bedroom: Someone lives here and would appreciate it that no one snoops through her things.

-Main Hall: A large room that also works for meetings and gatherings. And for fighters, a good place for sparring. There's several wooden poles for training but that seems to be it.

[Rosenkreuz stirs with buzzing still in his head, shivers through to his bones. The pain of death is still fresh in his mind, and the last thing he saw before he passed out was Naoya's fucking foot... so when he sees him over to the side, asleep, he's hit with a rush of incredulous rage that spurs him to stand and walk over there. After glowering down at him for a hot second, he swings a rough kick at his side.]

Up, cowardly vermin! Even a nightmare is too kind for you now.

[But he will graciously let him absorb just that kick while he decides how badly he's gonna kick his ass.

AFTER THAT HE'LL BE IN THE GARDEN OR SOMETHING. SAY HELLO.]

[Naoya wakes up with a groan, curling in on himself a bit from the kick and holding his head. This... doesn't feel like a new body. And these clothes don't feel like what he was wearing. And he's never had an afterlife, just waking up and another cycle of life.]

[But his head still hurts and his side still hurts, and his body twitches a little with the memory of being electrocuted. He's been badly burned by electricity before... and then his brain catches up a bit and he realizes exactly who kicked him.]

[Naoya forces a pained smile.]

Well, hello there.

['SAY HELLO' WAS HONESTLY DIRECTED AT THE OTHER RESIDENTS... but]

Yes yes. How lovely to see you again.

[Since that at least means they caught the right person. But as far as Rosenkreuz is concerned Naoya doesn't really deserve to smile either, so maybe he'll just try to step on that face next.]

[It was more what he'd say anyway.]

[But he'll roll out of the way, throwing a futon pillow at his face.]

Are we really doing this again?

Squirming off, worm?

[He easily blocks the pillow - that's most of what he's been training for this past week, after all.]

'Twas over too fast, for you.

[If he could duel, maybe he'd demand satisfaction that way. But right now, this is all he's got. He's just going to keep following him with attacks. Maybe even use extra feet this time if that'll pin him more easily... he'd eventually like to proceed to punching him in the face, but we're going beat by beat here.]

[ And at some point, there's just going to be a... tiny person??? Jumping into the middle of this. ]

... Seriously?

[ Akira's voice is probably too quiet to be heard, but said Akira himself is going to be following after his Familiar. Since a bitty Joker isn't a sure enough way of putting a stop to a fight. His expression is firm, his eyes are making it clear he's not above using force here.

So, yes, Akira will put himself directly between them, if he can. Also, his tone is way more... stern than anything he's used, since arriving to the base. ]

[Naoya's practically hit a wall, trying to dodge Rosenkreuz. The small creature is unusual, but the appearance of Akira...]

[... Ah. Well. This will be awkward. Naoya shrugs, putting his hands up.]

All I was doing was dodging.

[He definitely stays his hand when a Strange Child jumps in - his fury is cold, and doesn't blind him to his surroundings. But what the hell is this, Akira.]

You and your son should mind your own business.

[ HE WILL DEAL WITH YOU IN A BIT, NAOYA... ]

Not while you're trying to fight where I happen to sleep, too. Besides, Kerri-san has been nothing but nice to us, so I can't allow you to risk damaging her place.

[ Just. Not moving. ]

[Rosenkreuz snorts.]

Is that all?

[He could kick Naoya's ass later. How hard could it be to corner him again.]

... Only part of it.

[ Looking from Naoya to Rosenkreuz. There's some definite pain being amplified by the time his gaze returns to the latter. ]

How about taking some time to cool off? We should all talk later.

You're quite naive if you believe time will heal my grudge.

[ His grudge, huh? Akira had guessed it, but this possibly confirms it: Naoya killed this man. Fuck, he feels sick... ]

I never said that, did I? I don't expect much forgiveness to be happening in this place, in general, but we're all stuck here. What's more, is we all... apparently arrived here with heartbeats.

So I'd like to think of this place as another chance for us to put an end to that game.

[He'd mostly been pulling back, but -]

Really? I distinctly remember my body shutting down, so that's... extremely odd.

[check his pulse, yugi!! ...At least that is what Rosenkreuz will be doing to himself.]

Hmph. He speaks the truth...

[Well if he can take revenge on Naoya and actually still be alive at the same time, that's just like having your cake and eating it too, isn't it? Though he'll keep that to himself for now.]

If that is your game, what exactly do we have at our disposal?

[ And then Rosenkreuz is confirming. Akira is quiet for a moment... ]

We need to talk more with Kerri-san. [ gesturing around them a bit! ] That's the priest who runs this place. And, according to her, the base we were in was part of the Red Army. Marie's under the protection of The Demon, and is supposedly "special".

[ Wrinkling his. Damn nose at that, to be honest. ]

Apparently, though, the Red Army just wants to destroy the universe. And... it started up out of nowhere? Everyone kind of just... went from living in peace around here, to... that.

[ He's sighing a bit. ]

All we have right now are the powers we arrived with and anything we can do, in terms of mundane skills. Fortunately, as far as powers go, mine got stronger, even after having arrived here. That was another piece of evidence pointing towards us all still being alive.

[So Vita pretty much decided earlier to give the boys their space to duke it out because boys will be boys and she knows very well how they tend to communicate with fists rather than words even if she never quite understood that herself.

So she just decides to go about her business and figures she'll find the new arrivals at some point. So right now she arrives in the garden meaning to gather some vegetables for a meal.]

I'd say good to see you again, but I doubt you want to be here any more than I do. Still I can at least offer a tour and tell you what Akira and I have found out so far.

[Her voice seems a bit hesitant, like she's trying to figure out what sort of reaction he's going to have. They were on decent enough terms, but that could have changed in a week. Plus she doesn't know yet if he was the victim or culprit or what even happened.]

[Rosenkreuz glances up from the blossoming eggplants. Well, he doesn't really trust anyone here, all things considered. Rosenkreuz can at least give her credit for not choosing him as her victim, so he guesses she'd be as good of a temporary ally as any. It's also not a surprise she and Akira are working together given the contents of her letters, whenever he got around to noticing their existence. Could she have known it would be advantageous still to maintain a good relationship after death? He doesn't know, but he'll play along nevertheless.]

... That would be much appreciated, miss. I'm afraid we wound up in the same boat.

[On too many levels really. Why is it always when they're naked?]

[She didn't know, but she was a bit less bitter about dying since she knew that was a potential result and her death was pretty quick, just humiliating. From the same boat remark, she's now guessing he was the victim too. She's not going to venture to think he was killed naked too.]

You can call me Vita. I'm truly sorry that it had to happen again, but not surprised. I'd also like to hear if the rest of you learned anything new and how the others are doing.

Ah, I do remember, Vita... [He was just calling her miss to be extra polite (and betray less suspicions.) Then again he just ran around calling her THE AZURE DIVA during the case because actually using people's extra af titles just feels like the natural thing to do.]

But 'tis not you who must be sorry. [He gives a very serpentine smile. People might want to make sure one or both of them is accompanied in their future time here...]

We learned several things, some that seem immediately relevant, and others that do not. It's hard for me to say if the others are fine now after my trial, but if winding up in this place means anything, I can guarantee at the least that they caught the scoundrel.

[She's used to being referred to by titles, but she definitely is far more used to her Azure Abyss title that she never gave.]

I'm sure it would sound unbelievable, but I actually do prefer to handle matters with non-lethal methods.

It is true that the others except the one who did it are still alive, but alive doesn't always mean well. Unless others died, then waking up here must mean something. But I am interested in anything you know since maybe it will help us put some pieces together and figure out how to rescue them.

I believe most sane individuals would prefer that if at all possible, [Rosenkreuz smiles calmly.]

First, I know that Naoya is a pitiful dog who will attack unarmed men at the merest promise of power by the enemy. Though we may work towards rescue, beware that he does not try to sell us to them given a second chance, for unlike yourself I sensed no remorse for his actions.

[he basically thinks they shouldn't even let him help whatever they're doing and just let him rot somewhere, but obviously he is holding a bit of a grudge!!! He inhales with a bit of a raised nose before continuing.]

Putting that aside, we learned more about our library vandal - he or she is not human, and a component in their biology is able to be used to create whatever they imagine. This is likely the explanation for our trees of bread... but in fact the base as a whole was created with it, and thus it must be incredibly potent. The vandal is also the designer of a certain virus that can target specific individuals, and it's being used to kill a woman named Ivy. The virus overloads the body with "red blood cells" which carry impurities and systematically destroy the "white blood cells". [He chuckles.] Red and white... I don't understand the significance when it comes to cells, but it reminds me of our sides in the wars of the roses. The "red" duelists only wish they could do this sort of damage, however...

In any case, the end result is that the patient will go comatose and die within hours, up to a full day at most. And this is where it gets interesting... Ivy has already fallen ill from the virus, at the coma stage. Yet Marie acts as though she had only just reached this stage... which is interesting, considering the date on the document did not match up with the current date where she made this claim. The dates are all nonsense in this place of course, but that simply makes me wonder if the base is in the midst of twisting times, a loop that due to our confinement we could not sense, or perhaps simply a slower passing. It seems more likely to me than Ivy simply holding on miraculously for however much time has passed. There is also more information on Ivy as a person, though I'm not certain how important she is overall...

[So he'll take a breather so Vita can process all of this component and virus stuff.]

If the base was made of that, then I wonder why there are similar trees here and a pond containing ice cream. I did find some unusual scraps nearby that definitely were out of place. I can take you there directly or show you a piece I brought back.

[And considering that, she's going to go ahead and lead over to the pink pond for now to show that rather unusual sight. She wasn't there to see the garden, so she doesn't know there was also a place like that in the base]

I admit, I cannot help with the virus. My world is a bit lacking in advancements like that. However, I am a witch and familiar with some magic that could explain the other things. One possibility is that Marie's memories have been taken as well. Another possibility is a manipulation of time. A skilled witch can stop time temporarily, but also control who it will even affect.

What I'm having trouble with is explaining how we have memories of dying, and yet came here alive. Kerri also said that Akira and I both arrived in unusual clothing and she asked us if we were from another universe. What she spoke of was what we were wearing when we woke up in the base. I think you can already guess at the discrepancy there between our memories and what has happened.

If the strange food trees and water are here as well, perhaps we ought to question this Kerri about them. After all, the vandal mentioned their body is the only source of the component, yet they are clearly on the same side as Marie, wishing Ivy to die.

Though I think that even if Marie's memories were missing, she would be able to monitor the situation more closely than we would, which I assume would include the outside world based on what I have learned about the future technology... she should not be unaware of its development. Therefore, it was my conclusion as well that time manipulation was afoot. How interesting that it existed in your world as well... 'tis the signature spell of the Red roses of Lancaster, the counterpoint to the transport spells of the White roses of York. We can manipulate it as well, moving ourselves great distances or inverting the power, preventing others to pass with a barrier...

....But you did not have the white 'suit' on when you died, did you? Was Kerri watching us? That's suspicious. It all is. Including how we have not died... though perhaps we were merely resurrected. If Marie could offer that power, then who knows who else can as well.

Well, I'm only speaking of the magic I personally know. I should apologize that I hid the fact that I'm a witch to nearly everyone. I'm sure some would have feared knowing that I'm familiar with how to erase memories even if that was taken from me here and I felt it better to let people think I was of no threat.

And you are correct that I did not have the suit on when I died, or really at all since Angela showed me how to make a dress out of the sheets. Yet Kerri implied we were in the same clothing as Richard. Akira and I saw what she did and there was no magic involved on her side. She checked him for a pulse and then pulled him out of the water. She was able to carry him by herself and she is the one who dressed all of us in the clothing we woke up in. Truly, if anything from how she has described this place and what I've found I'd surmise that we were disposed of like trash by them. Yet I cannot find a facility that did it.
