Peace and Serenity

[Dying hurts doesn't it? Feeling such horrible pain as you realize that you're breathing your last moments. It makes someone wonder about what would be waiting for them in the beyond. Some would say there is an afterlife and it would depend on how you acted that decides where you will stay for the rest of eternity. But is it fluffy clouds and wings or pitchforks and brimstone? Will you remember anything that was once missing?

Not in your case. There's no clouds or fire nor any of your missing memories restored. Ain't that a bitch.

When you come to, you will be lying on a futon and tucked in like you had fallen asleep there all long. You will also notice that your clothes have been replaced with simple cotton shirts and trousers (for both men and women, hey we feel the ladies can wear pants too!) for better movement. But in Vita's case, probably a blessing considering. But something will stick out about yourselves: any wounds you had on you are now gone and healed. The room itself is simple with a couple floor lamps, a floor length mirror, a window, and a dresser but there seems to be nothing out of the ordinary-wait, a window?

Yes, there is one and when you look out of it, it's sunny. Not only that but there are signs of trees and a river flowing around where you are at. So there are two big things that you will now realize: This is most definitely not near the Base

And...you're not alone.]

(OOC: Welcome to Deadland everyone! This is the overall mingle log for Round 3 and due to the nature of it, this will be a bit more relaxing than the game itself. And since the setting is different from the Base, here are the places where your characters will be able to go to:

EXTERIOR:

-The Temple: Your place of residence for the duration. Unlike the Base which is constantly in a strange futuristic setting, this has the feel of a much simpler time.

-Outhouse: Where you can go to the bathroom. There's only one but thankfully it's actually got plumbing. Just a toliet and sink to clean up once you're done with your business.

-Baths: Or rather one bath. Not many folks live here after all. However, the tub is large enough to fit several people and and there is a box where soap and shampoo is stored.

-River: This river seems to be where a lot of folks like to wash up on. It's really weird according to the one who is living here.

-Pink Pond: ...no seriously, there is some weird pond in the back of the temple with a pink colored something. Are you brave enough to take a dip or a taste?

-Vegetable Garden: A large plot of land behind the temple is reserved for growing various vegetables. You have the normal kinds such as eggplants and carrots and celery but then there's smaller trees that grow warm bread and al dente noodles. We are not joking. And they are delicious.

INTERIOR

-Strangers' Room: This is a large room where the Strangers will be sleeping in throughout their stay. There is a dresser large enough for storing things if they wish to do so but it's mainly for extra clothing. The beds here are not bunks but rather the futons they will wake up on. It's easily foldable and there's no set spaces where you are able to sleep. And yes, both men and women will be sharing this room so I hope you kids have some manners and try not to peep on the other like a bad harem anime trope.

-Kitchen: 'Rustic'...is one way to describe it. But hey, at least there's an ice box to keep things frozen, counters to chop things up, tools to do cooking in, a sink with plumbing, and a fire burning stove. Just clean up after your mess, no one wants to disappoint the person living here.

-Hallway Closet: A walk in closet where extra futons, blankets, and towels are stored. Nothing fancy.

-Locked Room: ???

-Pink Bedroom: Someone lives here and would appreciate it that no one snoops through her things.

-Main Hall: A large room that also works for meetings and gatherings. And for fighters, a good place for sparring. There's several wooden poles for training but that seems to be it.

[Ewww, gross is she stuck with that pervert in the afterlife too? Okay, so Crow wasn't exactly a shining example of a gentleman, but he wouldn't kill a naked woman!

She's not so sure if she wants to stay in here. Who knows if he'll still be wanting to hurt her once he wakes up. She's definitely inching towards that exit with a good eye on Akira to make sure he's going to behave. But she's decent enough that she won't do anything to him until he wakes up.]

[ The first thing Vita gets to see, as soon as Akira wakes up and notices she's in there with him, is anger and fear...

His death might have been quick, but... h-haha... anyway!!! That look melts away almost instantly as everything very clearly sinks in. He hasn't even moved a muscle, other than some occasional tensing.

When he does move, it's only to sit up. His gaze lingers on the window for a moment before he finally speaks, his voice raspy, but a bit... stiff? As though the muscles in his throat are just too damn tense, at the moment. ]

... As much as it doesn't matter, in the end, I never wanted to do it.

[She's even more furious when she hears that. True, she didn't want to do it and couldn't find any alternative besides something that was definitely not an option.

What really infuriates her more is how utterly humiliating the death he gave her was. He not only took away her voice, but he took away her decency. She also gave him plenty of chance to stop and consider his actions. He could have easily restrained her if he felt her a danger. She half expected exactly that to happen. Her fan might be a weapon, but it's very much a last resort if she doesn't have the time to use magic.]

And I gave you a chance to stop yourself! How dare you follow me into the women's bathroom and then kill me while completely exposed! I'm sure you just left me like that too for anyone to see. I'm sure you made me out to be some horrible person as well when I hate killing! [She is definitely shouting there at the end and boy does her voice project well. But also she had a bit more time to wake up fully.]

I didn't trust you not to keep trying to kill me or any of the others.

[ His voice cracks, ever-so-slightly. Though... with one thing, his voice is firm: ]

But I didn't leave you exposed. I... covered you before leaving.

[ There's a pause before he moves to slowly stand. ]

... And, actually, I was honest. I told them all the truth, from start to finish. I'm... no better or worse than you are, and I assume that's why a majority of them voted for me. And I confessed before the crime could be pinned on anyone else.

Even after one person tried to take the fall, after I admitted part of why I wanted to kill was for their sake, I fought to make sure everyone understood that killing you was my choice.

You didn't have to trust me! You could have tied me up and stood guard if you really didn't want to kill.

I just had to make sure someone died and I couldn't bring myself to take my own life to make that happen. I couldn't risk that threat being true and if I could get home and they didn't do anything to my memory I'd have been able to bring you back and any innocent who died. I can't do that if her threat was true.

[ ... That...

Very visibly shakes him, and his face goes outright pale. Suddenly, he's very obviously not remembering to breathe as he stares hard at her.

"I hoped, that if I reached my home, I could come back for you. I work for the son of Enma-daioh, surely he could do something."

...

"Akira... I meant...everything. I do want you to know that. I'm sorry." ]

I'm-... [ lips drawing together tightly for a moment; frustration enters his voice ] ... Damn it...

[ Swallowing hard, he shakes his head. ]

Vita... Neither of us can take back what we did. But... I'm not going to believe that death was the end. Would you be willing to call a truce, at least for now, and work together to figure this place out?

I will on the condition that we can both agree that if either of us acts differently than we should that we won't do more than necessary to stop it. There's no coming back if the soul is destroyed.

[ He nods... and then he walks over to hold a hand out to her for shaking on it? If she'll accept. ]

Deal... I promise, as an ally, that I won't do anything more than necessary to stop you, if it's ever needed. [ a beat ] And I promise to be upfront with you as much as I can be.

[ There's a momentary pause... Let's start simple: ]

Are any of your memories back? [ running a hand through his hair ] Mine are the same as they were. What do you make of that?

Fine, I'll be more upfront, but I can't share some things that are secrets of the society or my clan.

And I cannot recall anything else, but I've only been able to identify one blank so far. I can't recall what caused Testa-Rossa to activate and led to Crow's death. Likely so I'd blame myself and be more inclined to take up that offer.

[ "Crow" has his brow very lightly tensing, but he can't recall why that carries weight... So he lets it go for now. ]

I'm sorry. [ for the position she'd been in ] The... last thing I remember is a massive attack being launched on my friends and I at the mall. So, as far as my memories go, they're all dead and I'm dead as soon as I'm sent back to that moment.

[ He holds a blink, and then releases a tense breath. ]

Yet, being stuck here also means that my world is in danger. So, I had many reasons for feeling compelled to accept the offer, too. [ looking to the floor ] Even if I wasn't able to pick anyone, until...

But if I'm from three years in the future of someone who was there, doesn't that mean it at least is not imminent danger?

And I apologize for hiding the fact that I'm a part of the same society he is. I wasn't sure if it would be safe for people to know since we have many enemies in my world. My position requires me hiding in plain sight, so I'm a practiced actress in more than just opera.

[ He shakes his head. ]

You had your reasons to hide it, just like I had my reasons to hide... that I'm pretty much close to having nothing left to lose. The only person I ever told anything to, was for the sake of offering a secret in exchange for a secret, since we felt like we'd be suspected, as soon as someone was killed...

[ With a briefly tense jawline, he closes his eyes for a moment. After a couple of seconds, he opens them and offers a wry smirk. ]

So... does this make me a monster, then?

I said that to react like a normal person in my world would. Though without my magic, the Azure Chevalier, or my Enforcers it is true that I have very little means to defend myself if your pet had decided to attack me.

[She sighs.] And I'm sure Jonathan was incredibly upset because I gave him the same impression even if my interest in him was genuine.

[ He holds a blink... ]

A lot of people were upset... but especially Jonathan and Angela. Angela was the one who found you, while Jonathan was-... immediately jumped into assuming you'd been... assaulted sexually.

[ Yeah, guess who's absolutely uncomfortable with that very thought? ]

Well... hopefully you'll get another chance to talk to him - and not on this side. I do think you deserve to be able to give your side to them, anyway. If that's something you want.

[That comment about the conclusion Jonathan jumped to just brings back her anger. And now that Akira is awake enough that she'd not feel bad about it she just wants to slap him for that humiliation. Because obviously if that conclusion was drawn so quickly, she wasn't covered as well as Akira claimed.

Which is what she's going to attempt. Just a single slap like any woman who is furious with a man for treating her wrongly would do. Whether he stops her or not, she has more to say.]

And whose fault is it that he jumped to such an incorrect conclusion?

[She pauses though to let her anger subside. He deserved that reaction, but nothing more than that.]

No, I think it may be for the best if I never see him again. He's got someone important to go home to that I think he cares about and he deserves someone who won't put her duty first.

[ He lets her.

And he's quiet as she speaks, his gaze averted and a bit lowered. ]

I wasn't exactly... thinking everything through. [ holding a blink for a couple of seconds ] But, it's true. I should have at least made sure you were covered completely before I left.

[ There's a slight tensing of his brow at that last part. ]

Well... even so, we should still look more into this place and figure out exactly where we are. This doesn't... feel like an afterlife, to me.

You definitely weren't. Neither of us really were. [She at least seems much calmer after being able to vent that bit of anger. Though Akira will forever remain a pervert in her eyes for that.]

I agree though. I was considering leaving to see what and who else was here. There must have been someone who dressed me in this and placed us in these beds.

[And hopefully it wasn't another perverted man, though at least they deserve some gratitude for thinking of her decency even if she'd prefer to be awake and having more fun when naked with a guy.]

[ He tugs gently at his own change of clothing, his hand belatedly moving to his throat -- th-that's right, he was...

For just a moment, he goes pale as the memory of that... thing surfaces. And it might seem he's spacing out just a bit, until he blinks and nods in response to her words. ]

Yeah, someone had to have been here for this... Let's see if we can find them.

[Vita is definitely going to walk towards that exit. The view from the window looked pleasant enough at least. So what is there once she leaves the room?]

[For starters, she will notice the door slides to the side as if it were an old fashioned Far Eastern style. And not anything high tech unlike the Base.

Upon entering the hallway...it's just a simple hallway with lanterns on the walls.]

[ Akira will be following after her out of the room. ]

Are you okay with splitting up?

As long as we don't go too far from each other. We don't know what we'll find and we should remain within a distance where we can hear each other. My voice and hearing are good enough to allow for a reasonable range.

[ A nod! ]

Sounds good to me. We can meet back here after we've looked around, then.

[ With that, he'll be picking theeee... right side? What's the first thing he'll see after starting that way? ]

[Vita will take the left side then. First thing she's going to do is take a closer look at those lanterns. She can at least recognize eastern style. Do they appear to use candles or some form of energy to light up?]
